Emma is a senior lecturer in the Deparmtnet of Education. She is also a member of the Institute of Environment, Health and Societies (Health and Social Sciences theme). Emma studied Geography at the University of Aberdeen and, after completing her PGCE (Secondary) at the University of Edinburgh and a brief foray into teaching, was awarded a scholarship by the University of St Andrews to undertake her PhD in Social and Historical Geography. Her broad geographical research interests attend to gender, family, education and social policy with recent substantive focus on social housing, training-for-work policies, family learning, body work, student parents and first-in-family students. Emma’s work has been funded through grants awarded by the Learning and Skills Council, Brunel University London, the British Academy and ESRC. Emma acts as a regular reviewer for various academic journals and she is currently a member of the ESRC peer review college (2010-2015). In 2006 Emma was awarded the Newbigin Prize by the Royal Scottish Geographical Society for her paper published in the Scottish Geographical Journal. Recent work has been published in Area, Sociology of Health and Illness, British Journal of Sociology of Education, Geoforum and an edited collection of papers on Women, Work-life Balance and Quality of Life in Gender, Place and Culture.

Elodie is a researcher at Brunel University Londonwhere she completed her PhD in 2013. She has worked on a number of research projects focusing on gender, care, training and education. Her work has been published in the British Educational Research Journal and Space and Polity and she recently assisted in editing a Routledge Major Works reader on Gender and the Environment.

East Thames maintain a dedicated Employment and Inclusion Team who provide a range of products and services including supported job search sessions, group training workshops, 121 advice and guidance, accredited vocational training and access to work experience and mentoring.

The team have supported more than 1200 people (young people and adults) into employment since 2010. Last year (2014 / 2015) wemoved 283 into work.
